Correction: House Republicans and the Sequestration Blame Game

We used the wrong roll call vote to provide background information on our fact check of the House Republican Conference claim that President Obama was responsible for the sequestration idea.

As a temporary measure, on Feb. 13 we added strikethroughs to the inaccurate passages in the posted version of the fact check.  We retain the strikethroughs here in preserving the record of the errors, partly to ensure that persons reaching this page will more clearly recognize that the information is untrustworthy.

The following passages were removed and replaced with more accurate information.

Though the bill was supported by the bulk of Democrats in both houses of Congress, majorities of the Republican contingent in both houses also supported the measure.  In the House, 147 Republicans voted for the deal while 86 voted against.

One hundred seventy-five congressional Republicans share responsibility with President Obama and 194 congressional Democrats if sequestration of the budget occurs.

We also replaced an infographic intended to represent the House roll call vote.

We apologize for the error.
