Email outreach to PolitiFact, July 26, 2019

On July 26, 2019 Zebra Fact Check emailed PolitiFact to seek correction or clarification of misleading reporting in its fact check examining whether Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez cried over an empty parking lot in Tornillo, Texas.

Note: This case is not among those we submitted to the IFCN as evidence PolitiFact fails to scrupulously follow an open and honest corrections policy. At the same time, PolitiFact never responded to our email and never clarified or corrected its story in response. PolitiFact left in place the (likely false) impression Ocasio-Cortez could see the Tornillo tent city from the entry gate. We note that Snopes did a much better job than PolitiFact in making clear what Ocasio-Cortez could and could not see.
