IFCN News: Animal Politico Reverified on May 21, 2019

We’ve encouraged the International Fact-checking Network to systematically offer updates regarding its routine work of reviewing compliance with its code of principles.

We don’t see that happening, so we’re taking it on ourselves to provide the type of news update we’d like to see from the IFCN.

Unfortunately, we do not anticipate having the time to do this task adequately. We look forward to seeing the IFCN do the bulk of the reporting on its activities.

Animal Político – El Sabueso

Mexico’s Animal Político – El Sabueso was recertified compliant with IFCN principles on May 21, 2019. The independent assessor, Ramón Salaverría, recommended accepting Animal Político conditioned on it making some changes.

Salaverría asked the site to list author biographies and to add a page listing all the corrections it had done.

Salaverría‘s report presented the page of corrections as an IFCN requirement for full compliance (though a “minor deficiency”):

Where a correction had to be made to fact-checks, Animal Político – El Sabueso has published a clear correction statement in that same page. However, it does not have a public page listing all the corrections made over the last few years. This is a minor deficiency that we kindly invite them to solve, in order to fully comply with the IFCN code of principles.

Animal Político carried lapsed verification status for just over three months.
